A Guns to Goods project
This piece has been made in collaboration with a youth Hip Hop Dance Troupe at MAV (Mothers Against Violence) in Hulme, Manchester. This is a celebratory sculpture, formed by rhythmic, choreographed movements that blend into the urban terrain of the City. The Troupe performed their dances onto a bed of wet clay which is being cast into metal paviers. These will replace some of the existing pavement slabs in and around Manchester. The patterns created by the dance moments reflect the dynamism of the young people’s energy. This monument raises awareness of the devastating effects of gun crime whilst being a positive and life enhancing representation of young people.

Guns to Goods
Guns into Goods is a Community Interest Company working in partnership with Greater Manchester Police Force and CARISMA (Community Alliance for Renewal Inner South Manchester Area) to recycle guns removed from the streets and turn the metal into new products. The works explore the potential to raise public awareness of the positive work that is being done with communities locally and internationally to disarm and destroy weapons.
