This is a new project and work in progress – a body of sculptures that explore amorphousness as an expression and celebration of the feminine. Exploiting the physical behavioural properties of material used (the pliability of wet clay), and using strategies such as repetition, mirror imaging and enlargement, I am trying to emphasise the dichotomous coexistence of formlessness and form. This references and corresponds to oppositional elements found in myth such as: the subterranean and the outer world, mythical vs. physical worlds, outer persona and internal psyche.
These are larger models copied faithfully from small maquettes made by squeezing wet clay between the fingers and hands. I plan to make much larger versions and to make installations by casting multiple copies.
